Fusing elements of latin, afrobeat, samba, second line, and hard rock-- along with the eclectic influences of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, James Brown, Medeski Martin and Wood, Fela Kuti-- this Oakland-based band has created a unique new blend known as the "jazz funk junk" sound. Founded in 2002, by organist Taylor Heanue, the group features guitarist Cal Reichenbach, drummer Brad Harbidge and special guest Nathan Endsley on sax and flute. Now a popular fixture at the Bay Area's best-known groove venues (The Boom Boom Room, Jupiter, Elbo Room), SOCKET has shared stages with many great acts over the years, including Hamsa Lila, Samba Da, Aphrodesia, Frequinox (Will Bernard, Stanton Moore, Eric Levy), Vinyl, Topaz, and Bat Makumba.
